Job Summary
The Golf & Life Skills Lead Coach is responsible for guiding and mentoring young people to become responsible citizens and lifelong golfers. This is accomplished by delivering the First Tee Golf & Life Skills Experience through engaging lesson plans, positive youth development, and the First Tee Coach Building Blocks. Lead Coaches facilitate lessons aligned with the First Tee curriculum while creating a safe, welcoming, and fun learning environment. They also serve as mentors, role models, and leaders for participants, volunteers, and assistant coaches. Orientations and ongoing Coach Trainings are held throughout the year to familiarize coaches with the First Tee coaching methodology and curriculum.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead approximately 10–20 hours of programming each week during nine-week
- sessions.
- Become proficient in delivering TARGET, Player, Par, Birdie, and Eagle curriculum.
- Model and promote the First Tee Five Key Commitments.
- Maintain a professional attitude with staff, volunteers, participants, and families.
- Set up and break down program equipment and supplies.
- Conduct pre-lesson meetings with coaches and volunteers before each class.
- Begin and end all scheduled lessons on time.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Represent First Tee – Orange County professionally within the community.
- Assist in recruiting and mentoring volunteer coaches.
- Assist the Program Manager with parent communications.
- Conduct participant certifications and communicate results.
- Monitor equipment inventory and maintain storage areas.
- Encourage participants to pursue tournaments and chapter events.
- Create a positive, engaging, and fun experience for every participant.
- Maintain a safe environment following all safety policies.
- Adhere to the First Tee Code of Conduct.
- Serve as a positive role model for youth.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth in coaching, recreation, education, or youth
- development.
- Experience teaching golf fundamentals, etiquette, and rules preferred.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Professional, reliable, and punctual.
- Ability to lead groups of 20 or more youth participants and supervise volunteers.
- Energetic, patient, charismatic, and passionate about youth development.
- Must successfully complete First Tee Level I Coach Training.
- Previous coaching experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand and walk for extended periods outdoors.
- Lift and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment..
- Demonstrate golf skills and instructional activities
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel between Orange County program locations

General Requirements:
- Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required background
- screenings, including SafeSport Training and any required criminal background checks.
- Must comply with all First Tee safety policies and organizational procedures.
- Nine-week sessions are offered during Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
- Most programming occurs on weekday afternoons and evenings, with occasional
weekend events.
